CrossFit - How cross training works!
One thing is clear: CrossFit pushes you to your limit! Find out what it actually is and why you should definitely give it a try in this article!
What is CrossFit?
In fact, the term "CrossFit" is not a sport at all, but a brand developed by the Americans Greg and Lauren Glassmann.
Here, the athletes do not focus on a specific muscle group, but train the entire body. Unlike regular strength training, the focus is not on the abdominal muscles, for example, but on functional training. This means that all muscle groups are used.
What makes CrossFit special?
- Community
This trend sport brings different people together, as all levels can train together in one box. - WOD sessions
Another special feature are the so-called WODs ("Workout of the Day"). These training sessions change every day and can be extremely short, intense and exhausting.
What does a session consist of?
A Crossfit session usually lasts around 1 hour and consists of the following elements:
-
Warm-up: Get your circulation going, warm up your muscles and prepare them for the workout ahead.
-
Workout of the day: The warm-up is followed by the workout of the day (WOD).
- Stretching: At the end of the workout, the muscles are stretched to avoid muscle soreness and damage.
Types of CrossFit training
AMRAP (As Many Rounds/Reps As Possible) workout: The aim here is to complete as many rounds/reps as possible in a given time frame.
Workout for time: The goal is to complete the workout as quickly as possible or in the shortest amount of time. Don't forget to write down your time, as this type of workout is the best way to measure your progress.
EMOM workout (Every Minute On the Minute): This involves completing a certain number of repetitions of an exercise every minute. The number of minutes is determined in advance.
Conclusion
CrossFit is rightly regarded as the toughest, or at least one of the toughest, workouts in the world. The workout not only challenges the body and mind, but also requires stamina, motivation, endurance, coordination, agility, balance and skill.
